Start the countdowns. Start the planning. Only a few months until Treasure Island Music Festival (TIMF) returns to the Bay. TIMF has always been one of my favorite festivals to attend. With only two stages, I am rarely upset about missing an artist, the food is always great, there are activities other than live bands, attendees look at gorgeous views of the Bay and I am rarely spending hours tracking down my lost friends. Even with a proven track record of 10 successful years, I worry that this years TIMF will not be the same experience as previous years.

Based on lineup, I would assume that TIMF has two stages (the same as previous years), which should allow me to see all of my favorite artists. That aspect from previous years does not trouble me. What worries me is the change in locations from Treasure Island to Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland. It could be difficult, maybe even impossible, to replicate certain aspects of past TIMF that define previous festivals. In previous years, once at the festival, the travel time between the activities was unbeatable. I never timed the distance, but I am confident it took less than five minutes to walk from one stage to the other. Typically, sound interference would be an issue with close stages, but I never really experienced this at TIMF. Songs were easily distinguishable from stage to stage. On top of the stages, the silent disco, food, and beverages were always a stone's throw away. The size and setup made me feel like I never missed anything! It was the perfect combination of a multi-day festival with the perks of a small venue, but I am not confident TIMF will be able to replicate this for 2018.
Will TIMF have to increase the distance between the stages because of the new location? Will I hear the music from other parts of the festival because of a change in wind or positioning of the stages?
Additionally, what will the views be like? In past years, festival goers were surrounded by multiple scenic spots. You could get a shot with the San Francisco skyline or a shot of Oakland. Move over a few feet and you could get a shot with the Bay Bridge or possible the Golden Gate Bridge. Depending on the location, someone might be able to get a shot with Alcatraz in the background. There were instagramable views all around the venue and island. Will ticket holders be blessed with similar views across the bay or will Oaklands harbor detract from the instagramability? I am afraid that the crain's from the port, the ships docked at the port or the bay bridge will block magnificent views. Moreover, the distance from the venue to San Francisco might be too far for a great shot of the San Francisco skyline. Only time will tell if my concerns are warranted.

Even with all of these concerns, I am still eager for the Treasure Island Music Festival to begin. The artists should perform memorable shows, and the atmosphere should be upbeat. This could be the rebirth of one of my favorite festivals. I am counting down the days until the festival begins!
